Day Three

I slept 12 hours last night!! Yay I feel great! Felt so sorry for Stephen and Jess having so little sleep. Amelia seemed fine, though.

After breakfast we headed to the Kennedy Space Centre. It is a space buffs heaven. We booked on an Up Close tour which took us around the whole facility including where the next shuttle is being prepared for takeoff in February and the launch sites and the future launch sites of the new Arian rockets being used to replace the Shuttles. We saw the last saturn five rocket which was made but not used - huge. The shear force from it is hard to imagine. We even saw and alligator by the road - there are over 16,000 living on the NASA site! A highlight was a Meet the Astronaut show. The astronaut was Wendy Lawrence who has made 4 trips into space. There weren't many people there so it was great. We got to meet her personally and she said she has made 2 trips with Andy Thomas (Aussie astronaut). Joe and I had Amelia with us as she was asleep in the stroller and Stephen and Jess went to the Imax. We changed shifts and Joe and I went to the Imax and Stephen and Jess went to the Meet an Astronaut. Amelia was awake this time and Stephen asked for Amelia if she (Wendy) had been to the moon. She said no but Amelia might one day. Amelia kept telling us that she might go to the moon one day.

The gift shop was a treasure trove and Stephen had to use great restraint. Amelia got stuffed space shuttle which she has 'whooshed' into space many times.

We had dinner at a seafood restaurant on Cocoa Beach Pier. It was beautifully decorated with fairy lights and swags of greenery. I had delicious coconut shrimp and Joe had crab stuffed shrimp.
